Yours and mine.  Yours because you’re the world’s foremost authority on you, so you’re the only one who can tell your story, or at least the only one who can tell it right.

Mine because for many people, writing is hard or at least it’s not fun.  That’s why so many people say they’re going to write a memoir and so few actually do.  That’s where I come in.  I’ve made my living as a writer for a long time.  I like what I do and, if awards and reviews count, I’m good at it.  So we combine your story as only you can tell it with my skills as a listener, interviewer, writer and editor and the result is your life on paper.*

When people read it, they’ll say, “That sounds just like Dad (or Mom or Uncle Nick or the Boss or my friend Judy).  Hopefully, they’ll also say “I never knew that” or “I forgot all about that” or “I never knew she felt that way.”  That’s because part of my job is to get you to dig deep and do your own story justice.  Another part of my job is to make sure that we have fun.  Otherwise, what’s the point?
